The Gossville Arsonist was an early 90s zine created by Scott Wood, a King’s Arms regular, and was available at the Rock Box, Agincourt, Camberley, The Cube held at Ragamuffins, Camberley, etc. It covered the bands that formed and played in and around Camberley and featured some very acerbic reviews which are a joy to re-read after all these years.
When The Farnborough Groove‘s second volume, ‘Son of Farnborough Groove, Vol.2’, released in ’92, carried “We Need to Talk” by Big Wednesday as the penultimate track of the B-side, sandwiched between Who Moved the Ground? and Static Erratic. The Gossville Arsonist’s review of the track was about as good as you could got from this fanzine’s hallowed Xerox’ery: ‘FUCK, It’s Big Wednesday, but this is GOOD. Like Ride at their noisiest with a dance beat. The gigs at Rags didn’t do them justice. Bit short though. I could listen to that wah peddle for hours.
There was a regular column written by Madam Frou Frou, the editor’s girlfriend at the time. Then there was Willy the Worm, a comic strip, which opened with “Hi – I’m Willy the worm. People think I’m a prick but I’m a worm with a centre parting….” created by Patrick Fenton.
Wood is now the Events Manager at Conway Hall, London and writes for Londonist. Madam Frou Frou went into public relations.

I wrote a regular column for the GA under the pseudonym Madam FrouFrou. As the editor’s girlfriend, it was my first taste of nepotism. I believe I have all/most of the back issues. Thank you for this website and all the care and attention put into it. I knew many of the bands features and am still friends with a number of the people named. I was 16/17/18 during this period and went by the name White Hawk (as one pseudonym is never enough). Hello to everyone who knew me.
